Miranda Cosgrove Graduates From Nickelodeon & Goes To College

She has been the star of iCarly on Nickelodeon for 6 seasons and now the 19 year old is ready to take on the next big role of her life: attending college. Yep, she’s done with Hollywood for a while.

The actress and singer opened up to People Magazine this month about her show which ended on November 23rd. She told the mag it was a huge deal for her, as it became her home away from home and, essentially, her second family.

But she has no time to rest as she is already enrolled as a college freshman at the University of Southern California. Luckily her dad taught her from a young age that education was very important, and that acting should be secondary.

While she has actually done it the other way around, working on the Nick show for the past 10 years, she is excited to be in school like a normal young woman and move into the next phase of her life.

Miranda credits her parents as the sole reason she hasn’t ended up like her fellow child stars, most notably Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, and even Demi Lovato, who has struggled with an eating disorder. She lived with her family away from Hollywood where she was able to have a normal childhood and not be exposed to the nightlife and underbelly of the industry at such a premature age.

Her fame and fortune have not put a dent in her, which is so refreshing and inspiring! She was reportedly the second highest-paid child actor, behind Two and a Half Men star Angus T.Jones, earning $180 000 an episode.

She is now enjoying a change of pace in life, telling People “A big part of why I wanted to go to college was to meet people and make friends…Ever since I was little my parents told me school was important. The best thing my parents ever did was make sure I didn’t give up on school.”

While she still has a passion for acting, that may change thanks to USC. “That’s what college is all about, figuring out what you want to do next.” We wish you all the best in your future, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a great ambassador for young women in the entertainment industry!

What do you think of Miranda’s decision to take a break from acting and pursue her education? Do you think she is a good example of young women in entertainment?
