Meet Ronda Rousey, The First Female UFC Fighter!

Her name is Ronda Rousey and she has just made MMA (mixed martial arts) history by becoming the first female UFC fighter ever!

25 Year old Rousey is a former Olympian who has been fighting in Strikeforce, which airs on showtime, and is also a part of Dana White’s MMA Organization. This is highly controversial because the UFC president has publicly stated before that women would never fight in the UFC!

“She’s the first fighter to open up a new audience to the UFC and MMA,” UFC co-creator Campbell McLaren told FOX Sports. “She’s smart, she can talk, she’s tough. She has real fight credentials. She’s got it all.”

Ronda is used to being somewhat of a pioneer as an athlete. She became the first American woman to earn an Olympic medal in Judo at the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008. She is also the first and current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, as well as the last Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

Aside from her athletic achievements, her celeb status is making her a popular girl elsewhere, being offered movie roles in ‘The Expendales 3’ and ‘Fast and Furious 7’.

We have to give our kudos to Ronda for forging a new path and opening the door hopefully for more females in a very testosterone controlled environment! Check out Ronda talking to USA Today about her path to UFC.
