“It Was A Great Year For Women In Television & Film” Amy And Tina Shine As Golden Globe Hosts

Comedians Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the Golden Globes last night and while there were many deserving winners on the night, these two really took home the gold!

They were funny, witty, and proved that women really can do anything. They totally blew away Ricky Gervais’ hosting performance of the last couple of years, as well as any previously talked about Academy Awards hosts (Anna Hathaway, James Franco, heck even Billy Crystal!).

Their opening monologue showed the hilarious talent and camaraderie  between the two friends. Aside from all the timely jokes, their statements of “It was a great year for women in television” and “it was a great year for women in film” shows what important work females are doing in the industry more so than ever.

Having them as a hosting duo proved that while there is still much work to do in terms of breaking down gender and cultural stereotypes on screen, women are forging the path and showing we have what it takes.

With ladies like Lena Dunham from ‘Girls’, Claire Danes from ‘Homeland’, Kathryn Bigelow director of ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, Julianne Moore in ‘Game Changer’ just to name a few, they are giving more and more aspiring actresses and women in general hope that they can achieve anything with hard work and persistence.

Jodie Foster’s 5 minute speech moved the entire room and TV audience to tears showing what a legacy she has carved for herself in the film industry. Remember, she became a household name and leading lady in an era that was dominated by the Tom Hanks’, Tom Cruises etc, and she is still making waves!

Tina and Amy themselves are pioneers, coming from an entertainment genre (comedy) that has long been dominated by males. Their brand of humor is not a sell-out for women, it is not based on sexually and smut, but laced with intelligence, warmness, wittiness and authenticity.
