Create A Successful Fashion Blog With These Tips From One Of The Best

Fashion Blogs. They are the new black. There are many girls and guys who eat, breathe and sleep fashion that it only makes sense the market is flooded with so many uber success sites. Many of you may know Bryan Boy who is one of the world’s top fashion bloggers. Armed only with social media skills, he gets invited to sit in the front row of all the major fashion weeks around the world next to the likes of Anna Wintour and the latest Hollywood “It” girl.

His blogging popularity has even scored him a gig as the Social Media Judge on America’s Next Top Model.

If this is something you have always wanted to do and are dying to find your niche to corner your market, then read on my lovelies!

One of our good friends is Joelyne Karan, aka The Sydney Girl. She is one of the top ten fashion bloggers in Australia, and is regularly called upon by fashion heavyweights for her opinion and flair. She sat down with me recently to divulge some of her secrets and give her advice to all of you out there wanting to start your own media empire.

Joelyne revealed that initially it started out as a canvas for her fashion loves then as she continued with her blog (going on 4 years now) she was able to define more clearly what her niche was and also realized that The Sydney Girl is more of a lifestyle and fashion blog, catering to the modern young chic Sydney woman looking for other like-minded fashionistas with some good advice to share.

I started my blog because I felt that, apart from my 9-5 office job, I needed a hobby that could utilize my creative energy. I love dressing up, putting on makeup, doing my hair, finding amazing products and beautiful clothing. My blog is my place to share all that I love with the world. And hopefully inspire others to do the same. You put on a great outfit, and you feel amazing the whole day. It’s all about feeling your best self. And that could look CRAZY to someone else, but you’d feel totally comfortable, carefree and happy wearing it. I think when someone expresses their most genuine self, it inspires others to do the same. Everyone is different and unique. What you wear can really express that. It’s one of the most powerful tools we can use. SO – that’s why I started, in a nutshell, and why I’m still doing it and loving it!!!
My 5 Tips to create a successful fashion/lifestyle blog;
  • Be yourself, and be passionate: I think the most fantastic blogs out there, are by those who you can see are truly passionate about what they blog about! They are true to themselves, and they shine because of this.
  • Karma baby: Share the love. Use social media to communicate with your readers. Write comments on other blogs. Respect all types of media.
  • Have fun: It’s great to take your blog seriously, but have fun while at it! Enjoy the whole process, whether it’s writing or taking photographs.
  • Be Inspired: Look at amazing blogs and magazines. Read a great book about blogging. Be surrounded by whatever your passion is. This is an obvious one, but sometimes easy to forget to do.
  • Have integrity: What do you stand for? What are you willing and not willing to do. Always go with your gut when opportunities come along. If it doesn’t feel right, just don’t do it. If it does, go for it!!! Don’t just do something for the sake of ‘fame’ or ‘getting popular’. Have integrity and don’t settle for something that isn’t what you stand for.

A well-known casting agent in Hollywood once said “If you build it they will come” so instead of waiting for an opportunity this is your cue to make one for yourself. Do your research and get plugged into social media. It seems crazy to think of the popularity of people like Bryan Boy and iJustine but there is an audience out there waiting for your exciting content!

The greatest thing about blogging is that you can do it all for free and find the type of blog template that will portray your personal flair. Even celebrities are getting in on the whole social media online media phenomemon with Zoe Deschanel’s Hello Giggles and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop. But you don’t have to have fame and fortune to create an online community of fellow fashionista’s.

As Tyra Banks would say, it’s time to be Fierce and Work it! Thank you Joelyne for sharing your tips with us. It is so refreshing to see a successful working woman like yourself with an online media career which you do for fun and get paid for.
